About Me

I am a senior political science major at Davidson College. This blog is a part of my independent study on gun violence that I was fortunate to have approved by Davidson faculty in January 2013. I have some experience working on the issue of gun violence in America. In the summer of 2011, I worked as an intern with the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence in Washington, D.C., where I had the opportunity of meeting and working with many inspiring people fighting against gun violence, including survivors of gun violence.

After I heard about the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, I was heartbroken. I've never feared for my own safety after mass shootings, but Sandy Hook felt closer to home for some reason--maybe it's because I go to school in a town the size of Sandy Hook, maybe it's because I adore children, or maybe it's because I want to be a mom one day and want my kids to feel safe. Realizing that many of my friends at Davidson were also appalled by this tragedy, I wanted to provide them with a better understanding of the issue and ways to get involved. It is my hope that my generation will take this issue more seriously--it's time we step up and call for serious change from our politicians and ourselves.
